Streetz Radio Royalty: Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott

Lately I've been thinking...how can I bring more recognition/honor to some of the artists that I still bump today?  I mean my whole mission when I started Streetz Radio (and Royalty Magazine) was basically to give exposure to artists and play pure, raw & uncut music!  Today with that same mission in tact, I feel that the only way that we can truly keep real music alive is to keep it in rotation!  I mean...Don't just talk about it...be about it!!!  Right?....Right!!!

Well EVERYONE KNOWS that 90's (and honestly the late 80's through early 2000's) hiphop & r&b was in a class of its own!  Although we will never truly get that era back, we can keep it alive by keeping it in rotation!  By saying that, I will do my part by highlighting at least one artist from this era every week!
I mean think about it...>>> With popular and watered down music just taking over the industry, it is easy for hiphop and real music period to get lost in the sauce.  And once it is lost, sometimes you need a magnifying glass to find it or a telescope to project it back to the world.  My goal is to overcome this obstacle as well as highlight some artists or legends in the game!   I mean honestly a true fan like me never stopped listening (and I know others haven't either), so I'm not fully accepting on what has happened over the years.  But it is what it is...so all I can really do is continue to show my support!  Honestly a lot of these artists never stopped doing their thing either, so maybe they will gain a new fan or help a newer artist see music from a different perspective!

This week's Honorable Mention goes to:

Missy Elliott

Missy Elliott has hit success in many levels that no other female rapper has yet to achieve!  She not only writes & performs her own music, but she has proved that you can be a successful woman in the industry without compromising your mind, body or soul!
From working with Timbaland & Magoo to Aaliyah to Ginuwine, Ciara, Tweet & many other artists... Missy's witty & creative personality shines through her extensive catalog of work and she is by far, one of the best to ever do it!

Missy Elliott is an American Rapper, Singer, Producer and Music Mogul.

Did you know?

Missy Elliott is the only female rapper to have six albums go platinum;  Her album "Under Construction" went double platinum.

Her music career started when Devante Swing (of Jodeci) signed her & her group "Sista" to  his Swing Mob record label.  Unfortunately, the label fell through but Missy was determined to make it so she turned to Timbaland.  Timbaland happened to be producing some tracks for Aaliyah's "One in a Million" album at the time (1996), so it was like it was all meant to be!  And it definitely was...the rest is history!

Missy was diagnosed with a hyperthyroid disorder (Graves disease) in 2008 and said at times symptoms were so severe that she couldn't even hold a pen to write songs.  My heart goes out to her...Today she looks great and appears to be getting her health back in order.  Although she has been laying low from the industry over the past several years, her music is still enjoyed by audiences of all ages!  Stay updated with her current projects via her website:  www.missy-elliott.com/

Did you catch Missy's Elliott performance with Katy Perry during the SuperBowl?  Man that was an amazing moment to see Miss Elliott on stage still doing her thang, wasn't it?!  For those that know about Misdemeanor, you know that she is a beast and has the work ethic to prove it!!  What troubles me is that some of the younger audiences (at least what I saw on social media) were familiar with Katy Perry, but not so much with Missy!  Maybe that was just some of the bad kids on my TL.  But I'm like, are you serious???!!!!  How can you not be?  That was like that moment when some of these kids thought that Kanye West & Rihanna somehow put on this man named "Paul McCartney" when they did that collab "FourFiveSeconds".  SMH....thus the reason I am doing these features every week! #LetsGo
